President Ersin Tatar has commended the work of the World Tourism Health Council and stated that the TRNC has reached an important point in health tourism following multiple investments in the country in this field.

The President made the statements whilst receiving a delegation from the World Tourism Health Council – which included council officials from different countries around the globe.

A reception was held at the Presidency hosted by President Tatar, who presented Certificates of Acknowledgement and Appreciation to the delegation, which included representatives from Türkiye, TRNC, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Saudi Arabia, India, Morocco, Dubai and Romania.

Copies of the book “The Vision for Two States in Cyprus” – documenting the work of President Ersin Tatar in his first two years in office, were also handed to the delegation.

President Tatar addressed the ceremony, where he stated: “The TRNC has undertaken multiple investments that have significantly developed health tourism in the country. These are very important for our country. I wish to thank Ahmet Savaşan, President of Cyprus Health Tourism Council, for hosting the visit of the World Tourism Health Council – which consists of representatives from 56 countries.”

The President pointed out the TRNC is a tourism island, and that the State has attributed great importance to having the best hotels and investments in health facilities in the region.  “We are pleased that the TRNC provides thousands of people with health services – even to patients from developed countries, who chose to benefit from the health services and treatments in our country,” President Tatar stated.

Stating that the island of Cyprus is the most important island of the eastern Mediterranean, President Tatar said that the “first place that comes to mind as health tourism in the region should be the TRNC, and this is a goal we are working towards”.

The President added that “it is possible to cooperate in areas such as health and tourism in Cyprus by separating these issues from politics,” and said “such cooperation in these areas will be beneficial to the Turkish Cypriot People and the Greek Cypriot People as well”.

President Tatar emphasised that the “potential will be increased with global integration” and said that “the international community attributes significant importance to health and healthcare issues following the pandemic". He added that "tourism and healthcare are important service areas together”.

Dr. Savaşan, who also addressed the event, stated that the World Tourism Council has 56 member states, which includes the TRNC, and said he was honoured that the TRNC flag was flown at important events and summits of the Council.

Explaining that the work of the council also focuses on “formulating policies that give direction with regards to health tourism,” Dr. Savaşan said that the “existence of the TRNC is being promoted through the work of the Council”.

Stating that the council has determined a road map for the next year, Dr. Savaşan thanked the council members who have participated in the delegation that is visiting the TRNC.
