President Ersin Tatar pays tribute to outgoing Turkish Ambassador Ali Murat Başçeri for his “invaluable support” to the TRNC

President Ersin Tatar has expressed his gratitude to outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri for his more than 10-years of service in different positions in the TRNC and praised the “invaluable support and experience” provided over the years by Mr Başçeri, who served in the TRNC as undersecretary and as the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye.

President Tatar paid tribute to Mr Başçeri for the contributions and support he attributed to the construction of the Emergency Hospital in Lefkoşa that was built to help the TRNC cope with the first outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the supply of Covid-19 vaccines, the preparation of the economic and financial cooperation protocols and the opening of the fenced part of Maraş which he said was a “turning point” in the history of the TRNC.

President Tatar thanked Mr Başçeri for his service in the TRNC, adding: “You have provided significant services to the Turkish Cypriot people. Your knowledge and experience are invaluable to us. I hope your contribution to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will continue. The support by the Republic of Türkiye and yourselves are important in being able to communicate, especially to the outsiders, the just cause of the Turkish Cypriot People and our new policy on sovereign equality and equal international status.  When I was serving as Prime Minister, we placed the two State policy into the government programme and also worked closely with Your Excellency on the Cyprus issue and the new political stance.”

The President pointed to the historic call made by the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for the formal recognition of the TRNC by the international community in his address at the UN General Assembly on September 20 and the TRNC’s observer member status at the Organisation of Turkic States.

“All of these historic developments have strengthened our policy with regards to the two State basis and a settlement that is based on the sovereign equality and equal international status of the two Sides,” the President said.   “We have made significant progress and we greatly value your contributions in conveying the two State policy to the rest of the world. Long may this continue.”

The President pointed out that Mr Başçeri will continue to serve the Republic of Türkiye in other important positions, and he thanked the Ambassador in his own name and on behalf of the TRNC.

Outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Lefkoşa, Ali Murat Başçeri, stated that his duty as the Ambassador to Lefkoşa had commenced on November 1, 2018, and added that he was returning to Ankara on Wednesday following the completion of his term in office.

Stating that he was in close relations with each of the authorities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus during his period, Mr Başçeri thanked the President and all authorities for their cooperation and “a fantastic show of solidarity”.
