In his speech during the meeting, President Ersin Tatar expressed his pleasure to meet the delegation of the TBMM National Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission headed by Mahmut Özer. Emphasising the importance of preparing young people for the future in a way to protect their cultural heritage, especially in the age of technology, President Tatar indicated the importance of continuing education by providing the right opportunities in the right way.
President Tatar said, “The Republic of Türkiye is a great state, a great republic. It is invaluable for us to share your experiences with us so that we can maintain them systematically in the best possible way. I would like to convey my thanks for all your support."
Noting that the TRNC is an independent Turkish republic despite the ongoing political problem, President Tatar pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot presence on the island goes long back. President Tatar pointed out that even during the British colonial period, Turkish Cypriots managed to continue their education with teachers sent from Türkiye with their identity and national values. He stressed the importance of the works to be carried out for the continuation of national education in accordance with national values and traditions. President Tatar touched upon the need for teachers to provide education with the awareness of national values and said that with these studies, TRNC can take more confident steps into the future.
President Tatar emphasised the significance of the cooperation between Council of Higher Education and Higher Education Planning, Accreditation and Coordination Council to maintain qualified education in higher education and noted that such steps will contribute to the promotion and economic development of TRNC.
In his speech during the meeting, Mahmut Özer on his part, expressed his pleasure to visit the TRNC and added that the relationship between TRNC and the Republic of Türkiye is getting stronger and they are pleased with this structure.
Mr. Özer highlighted that under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the righteous case of the Turkish Cypriot people is being voiced strongly on international platforms. He also expressed his hope that the just case of the Turkish Cypriot people will be carried to a better position on the international platform. Expressing that they are ready to provide all kinds of services as the National Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Mr. Özer said the equitable recognition of the Cyprus case, which has been going on for half a century, by all independent states will bring important results.
Noting that the Republic of Türkiye has achieved important openings on its 100th anniversary and that these initiatives are being shared with the TRNC, Özer said, "We will be happy to spend all our efforts to carry the TRNC even into better positions by working together."
