President Ersin Tatar attended the ceremony held at the Lefkoşa Martyrs' Monument today on the occasion of the National Struggle and Martyrs' Week.

President Ersin Tatar wrote the following in the Memorial Special Book:

“Our dear Martyrs, we commemorate you with longing, mercy and respect on the 60th anniversary of these brutal attacks, in which you became a martyr by sacrificing your lives in the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence against unprecedented cruelty and injustice. You and Mehmetçik made the greatest sacrifices and gave your lives so that the Turkish Cypriot people could live in these lands as an honourable people with their heads held high.

It is impossible to forget the bloodshed and the sacrifices made with the determination to live freely and govern oneself in peace and security. Thanks to you, the Turkish Cypriot people live and will live in freedom and security.

We strive to build the future in a reliable, liveable and sustainable way, without forgetting the past and by learning lessons from pain. At the point we have reached today, our greatest wish is not to experience past pains again.

With these thoughts, we commemorate you all with mercy, gratitude on this meaningful day. May your soul rest in peace.”
