President Ersin Tatar statement on March 8 International Women’s Day

“Our goal is to create a much stronger Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus together with our women”

President Ersin Tatar issued the following message in commemoration of March 8 International Women’s Day:

“We are this year commemorating March 8 International Women’s Day in the shadow of ongoing wars and conflict in different parts of the world, particularly in Ukraine. We are, once again, witnessing the great sacrifices being made by women, which have been repeated many times throughout history, especially in countries where war reigns, where women and children suffer greatly.

The victims of these wars are in prayers and our thoughts are with them during these days of hardship and we hope that all conflicts are replaced with peace and diplomacy as soon as possible for the whole world to have brighter tomorrows.

I would like to thank once again, and respectfully salute, all Turkish Cypriot women who have become a beacon of light, example and inspiration in terms of making self-sacrifices in our national cause and social struggle. Turkish Cypriot women have endured a lot of pain and suffering, burying their children and loved ones due to the atrocities committed in recent history in Cyprus. However, the endurance and faith of our women became the source of strength in our struggle to exist as sovereign equals.

The contribution of Turkish Cypriot women to living in peace and security in the sovereign State of the Turkish Cypriots, and to the development of the TRNC in every field has surpassed expectation.

At this point, efforts will be made together with all institutions and organisations of the state to ensure that there is no discrimination between men and women in terms of fundamental rights and freedoms, that our women have a say in every field from education to business life, from politics to society, and that they are not exposed to violence, injustice and discrimination. It is very important.

With this awareness and responsibility, we will continue our efforts with great determination to reach the goals that will carry our women further in every field.

Our goal is to create a much stronger Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus together with our women.

As I congratulate the women of our country and all women around the globe on International Women's Day once again, I wish our women a future full of love, prosperity and peace, where suffering and wars will end."
