In his address at the ceremony, President Tatar emphasised that the borders of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus were determined with the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, and that from east to west, the Turkish Armed Forces and the Security Forces Command remain the guarantors of peace, security, and stability for the Turkish Cypriot people.
Stating that Kılıç, who reached the highest rank of martyrdom, will always be remembered in the hearts of his people, President Tatar said: “To commemorate him, to honour our martyrs, is an essential part of the ongoing struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people.”
He also drew attention to Burhan Cihangir, who was wounded in the attack and survived as a war veteran, noting that his testimony stands as a living reminder of the sensitivity and gravity of the matter.
President Tatar continued:
“We have endured much suffering, we have sacrificed many martyrs, yet we have always trusted Motherland Türkiye. On July 20, our Motherland came here, and the Turkish Srcurity Forces remain here. Undoubtedly, the guarantee of Türkiye and the presence of Turkish soldiers on this island are the assurance, the safeguard, and the foundation of our peace, our future, and our security.”
President Tatar underlined that the future of the Turkish Cypriot people is inseparably bound to the guarantorship of Türkiye and the continued presence of the Turkish Security Forces in Cyprus.
