President Ersin Tatar paid a visit to a bazaar organised by the Gazimağusa Artı Education Centre in aid of the Champion Angels Association.

Making a speech during the visit in Gazimağusa, President Tatar stated that the TRNC continues to be in deep sorrow following the loss of life of the Gazimağusa Türk Maarif College volleyball team students, their teachers and parents, in the devastating February 6, 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye.

“In accordance with the decree passed by the Council of Ministers, the Champion Angels are regarded as our martyrs, and their graves will be built according to our traditions that will honour our martyrs,” President Tatar said.

Emphasising that the Champion Angels, their teachers and parents will be immortalised, the President recalled that there were “tens of thousands of people who lost their lives in the earthquakes in what could perhaps even be called the disaster of the millennium, which inflicted devastation, pain and losses”.

President Tatar stated that the Republic of Türkiye, under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,  is continuing to house and construct new homes for those whose properties were destroyed in the earthquakes.

“It is our wish that the difficulties arising from the losses will be minimised, following a very difficult period,” he added.

“Every single contribution made to keeping the names of our Champion Angels alive is very important. I wish the bereaved families and friends who have lost their relatives and loved ones in the disaster patience and the strength to cope with their losses. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will do everything necessary to continue to pay tribute, to remember and to appreciate our Champion Angels,” President Tatar said.
