President Ersin Tatar visits the new terminal of Ercan Airport: “New terminal of Ercan Airport will make significant contributions to the development of the TRNC”

President Ersin Tatar paid a visit to the new terminal building of Ercan Airport, where he held a press conference together with Erhan Arıklı, the Minister of Public Works and Transport.
President Tatar stated that the "world-class airport is the gateway to the world," adding that "despite teething issues which had been envisaged, the new terminal and runway have been inaugurated and are serving our country, which is a fantastic development that will contribute to the economy, tourism and visibility of our country". 
 
President Tatar said that there had been delays lived with regards to the construction of the new terminal -- which has a capacity to handle 10 million passengers per annum,  due to numerous factors including the Ukraine-Russia war,  hangar issues and the Covid-19 pandemic. 
 
Indicating that the new terminal and runway is a significant investment by the TRNC, Republic of Türkiye and the T&T consortium, the President pointed out that the upgraded Ercan airport is amongst the best airports in the eastern Mediterranean countries and the largest airport on the Island of Cyprus.
 
Stating that the old terminal of Ercan Airport, which had passenger capacity of two and a half million was in fact serving four million passengers per year, President Tatar pointed out that the new terminal can serve up to 30 airplanes at the same time. 
 
President Tatar wished for the upgraded airport to serve in its fullest capacity for the country and underlined the importance of the new terminal and its features that will have a positive reflection on the image of the TRNC. The President indicated that airline companies are increasing their flights to Ercan Airport, with additional flights planned from the UK.
