President Ersin Tatar’s message on April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day

April 23, 1920 is one of the most important turning points in Turkish history, when the foundations were laid of the Republic of Türkiye, where the Turkish nation lives in independence and freedom.

April 23, 1920 is when the Turkish nation exercised its sovereignty and freewill which shaped its own destiny, and in doing so shouted out to the whole world that the Turkish nation cannot live in captivity.

April 23, National Sovereignty and Children's Day was attributed to the children, our guarantees to the future, by Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who devoted his entire life to the sovereignty and independence of the Turkish nation and I commemorate this important day with my best wishes for the future.
