President Tatar: “I condemn the coups once again”

President Ersin Tatar made a written statement on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the coup carried out by the Greek Junta and the EOKA terrorist organisation on July 15, 1974, and the 7th anniversary of the coup attempt by the FETO organisation on July 15, 2016.

President Tatar made the following statement:
“The Greek-Greek Cypriot leadership, which sees the Republic of Cyprus, that was established with the equal founding partnership of the Turkish Cypriot people and the Greek Cypriot people, as a springboard for enosis, massacred the Turkish Cypriot people with the attacks they launched on December 21, 1963 in line with the Akritas Plan, while also destroying the Republic of Cyprus by force of arms and turned it into a Greek Cypriot state.
This first coup in Cyprus with the support of Greece reveals that the real occupier in Cyprus is Greece.
Greece and the EOKA terrorist organisation, which could not break the Turkish resistance in Cyprus and were not successful, had some difficulties with the Makarios government on “the strategy and method to be followed to realise the Enosis” and carried out the second coup and occupation in Cyprus on July 15, 1974.

While the "Hellenic Republic of Cyprus" was proclaimed with this coup, the main goal was to clear the Turkish Cypriot people away and annex Cyprus to Greece.

In the face of this great danger, Motherland Türkiye, using its rights and authorities arising from international agreements, saved the Turkish Cypriot people from the massacre and liberated them with the Peace Operation carried out on July 20, 1974, and brought peace and tranquillity to all of Cyprus.

In addition, while thousands of Greek Cypriots who opposed the coup were saved from the massacre, the Junta government in Greece was also destroyed and democracy was brought to the country.

The Greek and Greek Cypriot people should not forget this. While the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo and some circles try to describe the Peace Operation as an "occupation operation", my advice to them is to look at the coups and invasion attempts that took place in Cyprus on December 21, 1963 and July 15, 1974 with the support of Greece, and see who the real invader is.
In the meantime, the fact that Makarios, in his speech at the UN meeting on 19 July 1974, stated that "Greece is an occupier in Cyprus" should be taken into account.

The terrorist organisation FETO, supported and organised by foreign powers, attempted a coup d'etat in Türkiye on July 15, 2016 in order to violate the will of the people and democracy, to divide and split Republic of Türkiye, and to enslave it.

While the Turkish Grand National Assembly, where the will of the people is represented, was also attacked in this coup attempt, hundreds of citizens were killed. However, this coup attempt was prevented by the Turkish people, the Turkish Armed Forces elements affiliated to the state and the security forces under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The Turkish Cypriot people reacted very harshly to this coup attempt.

In the meantime, the statements made by some Greek Cypriot leaders right after the coup attempt of the FETO terrorist organisation, such as "If we had attacked the North on the evening of July 15 and captured Turkish soldiers, Cyprus would have been ours again" shows another dark side of the FETO terrorist organisation and its relations.

Today, while I condemn some countries that still protect and watch over the members of the FETO terrorist organisation and try to use them against the Republic of Türkiye, I once again condemn all the coups against human rights and freedoms, democracy and the will of the people in any country in the world.

I commemorate those who fell martyrs to prevent the coup attempt carried out by the FETO terrorist organisation on July 15, 2016, to protect the Republic of Türkiye and democracy and the will of the people and salute the veterans with respect.
