Statement of President Ersin Tatar on the developments in South Asia
President Ersin Tatar has issued a written statement on the developments between Pakistan and India in South Asia.
The statement of President Ersin Tatar reads as follows:
“We are following with great concern the developments that have been unfolding recently between Pakistan and India – two major countries of South Asia.
We see Pakistan as a brother country that has historical and strong relations with Motherland Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Pakistan has always stood in solidarity with the Turkish Cypriot People.
Furthermore, we have brothers and sisters of Pakistani origin who have settled or chosen to work in our country. They have made the TRNC their home, contributing to our economy, social fabric and cultural diversity.
It is not possible for any country to reach a resolution to any long-standing, complex and historical problem through unilateral military initiatives.
The international community is alarmed that the attacks, instigated by India against Pakistan, could escalate tensions further in Asia and culminate into a full blown war. I wish to state that we also share the same concerns. Such attacks that target civilians and civilian settlements will not have any positive outcome.
As the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, it is our sincere hope that the tension in South Asia comes to an immediate end, and that patience, diplomacy, negotiations and dialogue between the parties prevail.
I wish to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt condolences to the brotherly people of Pakistan and the bereaved families who have lost their relatives and loved ones in the attacks. May Allah give them the patience to cope with the losses and may those who were martyred in the attacks rest in eternal peace."
