President Ersin Tatar will come together with the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on Monday, January 20, at 10.30am.
President Ersin Tatar will come together with the Greek Cypriot leader, Nikos Christodoulides on January 20, at the official residence of Colin Stewart, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus, located inside the UN Buffer Zone.
The leaders will hold consultations on the opening of new crossing points. President Tatar has previously stated the need for a second crossing point for vehicles to be opened in Lefkoşa, that will relieve the traffic congestion being experienced in Metehan. The opening of the Haspolat crossing point aims to provide relief in vehicle crossings and also increase the volume of trade between the two sides within the scope of the Green Line Regulation.
President Tatar, in his recent joint press conference with Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, had once again called on the Greek Cypriot leader to propose a crossing point as soon as possible if he wishes to respond to the Haspolat crossing point proposal.
The current proposals of the Greek Cypriot side do not consist of crossing points, but of horizontal and south-to-south transit passages.
